The problem

The EU AI Act mandates transparency obligations on AI systems (Article 50, in force since February 2025). Solo SaaS founders who ship an AI feature don't have a compliance officer. When an EU client asks for compliance docs before signing, they have nothing to show. That's a concrete sales blocker.

The approach

Self-serve B2B: the user answers 15 questions, gets their classification for free, then pays once (€149/299/599) to download 3 AI-generated PDFs (Model Card, Risk Assessment, Compliance Summary). One-shot pricing with optional annual maintenance. Zero sales calls, 100% async.

Key decisions

01

Copy pivot after EU Digital Omnibus

The EU Digital Omnibus (May 2026) pushed high-risk obligations to December 2027. The purchase trigger is no longer 'the deadline is approaching' but the sales blocker: your EU client just asked for your compliance docs.

02

PDFs on Cloudflare R2, not S3

Near-zero egress cost on R2 vs AWS S3. For PDFs downloaded occasionally, the cost difference is significant at indie scale.

03

noindex on app.modelcards.eu

The landing will rank on Google. The app (questionnaire + checkout) is intentionally out of index. Two domains, two separate goals.

What I learned

Launching a solo B2B SaaS with €0 capital is primarily a distribution problem, not a product problem. The product was ready in 3 weeks. Acquisition is the real work.
